  1. The Metasploit Framework is an advanced open-source exploit
  2. development platform. The 2.6 release includes three user interfaces,
  3. 143 exploits and 75 payloads.
  4.  
  5. The Framework will run on any modern operating system that has a working
  6. Perl interpreter. The Windows installer includes a slimmed-down version
  7. of the Cygwin environment.
  8.  
  9. This is a maintenance release - all updates to 2.5 have been rolled into
  10. 2.6, along with some new exploits and minor features. 
  11.  
  12. The changes since the 2.5 release include:

  15.     * Tab completion improvements
  16.     * Remember last used exploit after save
  17.     * Improved reload/rexploit/rcheck commands
  18.     * Security fixes for handling terminal escapes
  19.  
  20. msfcli:
  21.     * Security fixes for handling terminal escapes
  22.     
  23. msfweb:
  24.     * Security fixes when using defanged mode
  25.     
  26. meterpreter:
  27.     * Addition of the SAM password dump extension
  28.     * Improvements to the VNC injection
  29.     
  30. msfpescan:
  31.     * PE fingerprinting via the -S option
  32.     * Additional information via the -D option
  33.     * Major bug fixes to PE format parser
  34.     
  35. exploits:
  36.     * Major rewrites of many exploit modules
  37.     * Reliability improvements across the entire set
  38.     * 42 new exploits added since 2.5 was released
  39.     * Improved IPS evasion for SMB/DCERPC/HTTP modules
  40.  
  41. libraries:
  42.     * Human-friendly SMB and DCERPC error codes
  43.     * Reworking of the entire DCERPC API
  44.     * Incremental improvements to the SMB stack
  45.     * Integration of commonly-duplicated routines
  46.     * Major improvements to PEInfo module
